The MID scholars Program at the University of Pittsburgh aims to engage underrepresented minority students in science, medicine, and public health careers. The program focuses on providing research experience, exposure to biomedical and public health research, and enhancing the research capabilities of URM individuals. Specifically, the program offers year-long research projects in microbiology and immunology, led by experienced researchers and principal investigators. Scholars gain hands-on experience, use lab equipment, meet with mentors, attend scientific conferences, and receive peer-based mentoring. The ultimate goal is to help scholars develop as independent researchers and pursue careers in the biomedical sciences or public health. Stipends are provided for financial support during the training period, and scholars have oppurtinities to present their research at conferences.
