Black Women in Academia (BWA): Supporting, Healing, and Empowering is a University of Pittsburgh Seed Project-funded study designed in order to better understand the challenges black undergraduate women face who have been victims to sexual misconduct. In a study conducted in 2019 it was stated that 27% of Black undergraduate women experienced sexual assault or touching that involved physical force or the inability to consent. Black women are also at a higher risk of intimate partner violence (IPV) and stalking. This study takes on a mixed methods approach with the intention of improving the existing services and aid in the development of new sexual misconduct prevention strategies tailored to the unique needs of Black undergraduate women at Pitt.
